MARBLE & GLASS MOSAICS
Mosaic is….
Mosaic is the art of laying small pieces of colored glass, stone, ceramics, shell, plastics, marble and many other unusual materials in a special bonding plaster to create decorative patterns on walls, floors and various objects. These pieces or cubes are called Tesserae. Colored marble is used for floors and colored glass for ornamentation of walls and ceilings.
- It's origin -

Mosaic is among the most ancient art forms that have sustained its appeal to the day with same degree of popularity and undiminished strength. The art of mosaics took birth with the ancient man's desire to decorate the great walls, halls, spas of his palaces and temples. He employed decorative arts to add to the elegance and magnificence of such grand structures.

It is generally believed that the Sumerians were the pioneers in the art of creating mosaics From them the tradition moved on to other Mediterranean peoples including the ancient Egyptians, North Africans and the Assyrians in Palestine and last but not the least, the ancient Greece and Rome which became its centers and where this art flourished. Many ancient examples of mosaic art have survived centuries of neglect and lack of maintenance and are now chief source of example and inspiration for modern architects and interior designers. They also provide us with a first hand knowledge about the lifestyle and traditions of the ancient civilization.

- Its technique -

Mosaics are small chips unparalleled in many ways. They offer innumerable design possibilities because of their small size and variety of finishes. They are known for their chromatic variations and resistance to staining and absorption of liquids. According to the requirements of the design, mosaic materials are chosen in different hues and colors and the pieces are cut manually. The design is drawn on a paper in original and each selected mosaic piece is glued and fixed on mesh one by one according to the design to complete the pattern. These ready-to-fix patterns are then shifted at site for lying as per architectural requirements.

                       - Mosaic Today -

Mosaics are in vogue again as a decorative and durable application of a centuries old tradition. The innovative artists and architects have been instrumental in reviving the classic tradition of decorating the bathrooms, spas and swimming pools of homes as well as public places like hotels, and tourist resorts.
